Dukinfield Old Hall Chapel is a late C16 building. Once a family chapel to Dukinfield Hall. It became the first independent (Congregational) church in England in 1640 and was extended to become Dukinfield Congregational church in 1872, before being left derelict after a serious fire in the late C20. The standing ruins are Grade II* listed and at risk. FVP was appointed in 2013 to undertake a review and update of a preliminary Conservation Plan prepared by others in 2008. The re-assessment revealed a range of conservation-related issues, which extend beyond the physical condition of the built fabric. The review was prepared in consultation with a project advice panel, which included English Heritage, Heritage Trust for the North-West and the Friends of Dukinfield Old Hall Chapel.
